Joseph’s Coat Yarn

Josephs Coat yarn was born of my love for wool; the qualities of wool- nourishing, warmth, real, organic. It embodies all that I do.

I can still remember the smell of the shearing shed of my childhood and watching the half frozen lambs Dad had brought in, to warm up in the kitchen after a freezing night.

Wool nourishes me. It brings me warmth and inspiration; it is interconnected with everything I do.

My flock of sheep are super fine Merino, and can be worn against the skin. Super fine not super-washed, it is therefore as environmentally friendly as yarn can be and wholly Australian made.

My wool is real, lofty, warm and sensual. It invites you to step closer to our natural world.

I have chosen the beauty of plant dyeing to bring out the best in my yarn. I am constantly in awe of the colours Mother nature gives and provides - the reds of Madder, yellows of Goldenrod, and blues of Indigo; which starts out green and magically changes to blue once in the air.

It is a very beautiful and organic thing to do.

History shows us that natural dyeing has always been the way we humans coloured our world, only since the turn of the century has that become lost as an art form.

With this yarn you will see the natural movement of plant colour throughout.
